John J. Pembroke has over 29 years of experience practicing law. After years as the senior tax lawyer for Schuyler, Roche and Zwirner (SRZ) in downtown Chicago, John J. Pembroke started his own law firm near his home in Park Ridge, Illinois in 1992.

John Pembroke's career has spanned many different fields, including business, taxation, and the law.

From 1967 to 1974, John worked at Jewel Food Stores, where he was a recipient of the Jewel Scholarship. He graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago in 1975 with honors and distinction in accounting. He became a member of the audit staff at Coopers and Lybrand, then a large, international accounting firm and one of the so-called "Big Eight".

John matriculated at Northwestern University Law School in 1976, graduating and passing the bar in 1979. After law school, he worked in the tax department of Arthur Young and Company. In 1980, the lawyer joined Chicago law firm of Schuyler, Roche and Zwirner (SRZ), where he became a partner/shareholder in 1988.

John's focus for the first half of his career was on tax and transactional matters. He assisted on domestic and international tax planning for a key client's expansion into Europe over the ten years he worked for SRZ. He also worked on two tax cases which made the front page of one or more business journals, and handled the financial aspects of the then-longest arbitration in Cook County history.

John has applied his skills to a variety of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, leases, vendor agreements, commercial contracts of all kinds, bankruptcy and informal workouts. John has assisted in commercial lawsuits involving various financial controversies, where he interviewed and prepared expert witnesses for trial, and advised on how best to structure settlements for tax and non-tax reasons. John continues to be an of counsel member of SRZ today.

John has built his practice so that the firm now employs two other lawyers and five full- or part-time legal assistants.
